The streets become a gilded river, awash in fading light, a painter’s final, hurried shiver before the canvas turns to night. Each house I pass, a memory sealed, a lamp now lit, a shadow cast. My days of being and days to be are made known in this snail-paced voyage, harboring brief. The woods, like guardians of slumber, stand contoured, harsh, and mysterious. Their branches, portrayed right next to the glow, are fictions the ancient spirits know. The air grows cool, a quiet sigh, as whispered thoughts drift through the haze. I find my footprints in the sky, amidst the end of painted days. And though the evening gathers end, I know the porch light waits ahead. The day’s bright bloom, a final rose, gives way to peace, with petals spread.
