The old is gone
Spoken Word: “The Old Is Gone” I knew one day I would leave. Because I don’t stay where I’m not valued. I don’t stay where every word is a reminder that I am not enough, while I’m breaking my back trying to grow into better. I got slummed and slimmed by your tongue, but now— now that your voice is gone, I am thick. I am bold. I am unshaken. I would rather be manless than hide behind a man who buried his morals and forgot how to respect a woman. Listen— Have you ever tried squeezing into clothes that no longer fit? Once your favorite outfit, but now it pinches in all the wrong places— tight, uncomfortable, outdated. That’s exactly what it feels like when you drag the old you into a season God never designed for your yesterday. You can’t enter your next level with yesterday’s mindset. You can’t beg for resurrection while refusing crucifixion. You can’t pray for promotion and still cling to the prison of your past. Hear me— God does not pour fresh oil into old vessels. Something must break. Something must be released. I used to stay stuck— not because God wasn’t moving, but because I refused to move with Him. I kept showing up as the outdated me, crippled by fear, paralyzed by perfection, chained by opinions. I prayed for new doors, but I lived in old rooms. Until I heard the Word cut me open: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old is gone, the new is here. Not when it’s convenient. Not when I feel ready. Now. Here. Already. But the truth? We love our old scars. We find identity in wounds we should have outgrown. We defend cycles that are drowning us. We wear labels God never gave us. But listen— you cannot heal in the same environment that broke you. You cannot soar while clinging to the ground. You cannot step into divine purpose while still negotiating with your past. Yes— outgrowing the old you is painful. It means walking without applause. It means leaving the familiar. It means looking in the mirror and saying, “I’ve stayed here long enough.” Long enough in insecurity. Long enough in procrastination. Long enough in cycles that sucked me dry. And with God’s fire, I rise. Not because I feel ready. But because He already made me new. If you doubt it— look back at what you’ve survived. The old you would have died in storms you’ve already outlived. But here you are. Breathing. Unbroken. Refined. So today is not about feelings— it’s about decision. Today, I declare: The old is gone. The new is here. Whether I feel it or not. Whether you believe it or not. Whether I’m still trembling through the night— the new is here. If God calls me new— who am I to argue? Look at Abram—he became Abraham. Look at Saul—he became Paul. Every destiny requires a death. Every purpose requires a transformation. Do not conform to the patterns of this world. Be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Because comfort is not your calling. Transformation is. So I rise. So I walk. So I live. The old is gone. The new is here. ?? Mic drop.
