Girl On A Bridge - 2025
She gazes unseeing; a desolate being Asleep in this wide awake town Leant ’gainst the rail of a bridge ’cross the river Her gaze and demeanor are down Considered a knife for taking her life But thoughts of whom-ever might find her blood drenched cadaver, decided she’d rather not mess up an innocent’s mind Spent some time thinking, painkillers while drinking Might bring her the peace that she craves But what if they merely left her feeling bleary So now she stands gazing at waves So, when your life has turned grey And it shows you no way And there’s no guiding light Do you contemplate “Goodnight?” For you gave it your best You feel you’ve failed the test Please see things another way Tomorrow’s a brand new day Three monkeys - wise - as she scaled iron sides And no passerby broke his stride Made her last pledge on a maintenance ledge That really was not very wide “Well Lord, that was me; what had you hoped to see Whatever it was I have failed Messed up all my life, but I’ll get one thing right For I’ve got my final act… NAILED!” Behind her a squaddie, a war ravaged body Said I’ve been where your mind is now But one stranger, then, helped me love life again Can I be your ‘Stranger’ somehow So, when your life has turned grey And it shows you no way And there’s no guiding light Do you contemplate “Goodnight?” For you gave it your best You feel you’ve failed the test Please see things another way Tomorrow’s a brand new day Well, she turned around; she climbed back and she found That his wars had took half of one leg Her eyes opened wide and she said, in surprise, “Did you used to come here to beg?” “I found you a place at the veteran’s mission And a cab to make sure you would go You needed me then as I needed you now.” And he said, “Samantha…… I know.” So, when your life has turned grey And it shows you no way And there’s no guiding light Do you contemplate “Goodnight?” For you gave it your best You feel you’ve failed the test Please see things another way Tomorrow’s a brand new day
