Call It A Night
The fire’s down to embers and the candle’s burning low And I cannot remember when we stopped watching the show The morning’s coming quickly but we’ve still so far to go ‘Before we have to greet the early morning light. Maybe just another drink then we can call it a night. The bottle’s on the table but that’s halfway ‘cross the room And I’m not sure I’m able to navigate through all this gloom The same old silly story of this former bride and groom Who cannot seem to love without some form of fight. Maybe just another drink then we can call it a night. Heated words still simmer in the air I’m still here but you’re way over there. I promised you a life that’s never dull But now the glass is empty when it used to be half full. We sit another hour as the room grows colder still. I cannot find the power or, perhaps, I lack the will. The bottle’s almost empty but we haven’t drank our fill And the moon peeks in to laugh at the sorry sight. Maybe just another drink then we can call it a night. Maybe just another drink... Maybe just another drink… Maybe just one more, you think? Then we can call it a night.
