I called you this morning, life, for a bitter tea
I called you this morning, life, for a bitter tea, We, who never knew how to exchange a true word, We, who danced on the same tense wire, Your eyes are estranged from me, the traces of past battles are your attire. You embrace the wrinkles, and a tear slides down your cheek, You seemed tired of me, life. I know it wasn't easy for you to carry me on your shoulders, That you often leaned toward me with pity, You always kept me on a thin rope, Always, between falling and rebirth. Do you wish for sweet tea, wrapped in aromas? Or bitter, with sharp parts as a reward? I know you often endured the grandeur of my mistakes, Tell me today what you deserve. I sense your answer in the depths of silence, You have been both my burden and my salvation, Answer me today, in the light of the first morning, How do you like your tea, life? I wish to ask you, just between us, What will remain when time and rains have their say, What will become of the sun-scorched earth, And of love turned back with pain. What will be after I am no more, A day of mourning without tears, Please, answer me today, life, And wipe the tear from your cheek. You will forget me, even if you still hold my hand, I will become earth again, dust, Stay, life, to give me the final news, How much time is left, how much time still exists.
