Tenth of July
It's quite a bright dusk today I would choose Neapolitan yellow for the sky Although I haven't touched colours for years After all, images and paintings are quite enough So why create more without urgent necessity? The thick foliage of the trees around the balcony Stands still as if painted on a canvas It’s a heatwave now, I'm sitting in my rattan chair. My jasmine tea has long since gone cold. I can't formulate for myself What’s the good idea to stare mindlessly At the trees, the houses around and the sky The sky is particularly abundant here, it always has been. Why doesn't a single memory occur to disturb me? I'd be glad to remember something Though I probably do remember everything Without memories, brought by the occasional breeze To stay for a minute or two And then fly back thousands of miles away To where they belong - I know the address so well. I have no one to speak to No one to share something with Since my beloved passed away I just wait for her calling I know she’d call me once And I’ll be quick to answer Her magical voice will call my name And I’ll be there in a split second At home, with her again Home is the only thing we need, after all I’ll ask her to sing me that old song About nightingales in the Berkeley Square And then something of Beethoven Whose music she knew by heart, the every note of it Its getting darker here now Sorry for another empty evening It was beautiful, as always.
