Sugar Cookie
Sitting here again. Eyes closed. You? You’re here, never far. Table for two, linen dressed in floral patterns bringing out your eyes. Coffee for me. Tea and cookie for you. Holding your hand I reluctantly let go. Two swirls to the right. One to the left. A tap for good measure. Subtle blow from your lips. How I envy the rim of your cup. How I long even the slightest touch left on the spoon. A beloved sugar cookie. An indulgence to ease the toils of the day to come. You look across. I look back lovingly. There’s no mistake. In your eyes our story unfolds within them. The laughs, the cries, the love. I look around at the decor searching for the littlest signs that this could be heaven. An indignation of a life before you is not sought. Nor welcomed. An indignation now without you is more than I can bare. As I choke back the here and now, my senses betray me of your presence. My longing won’t let me pass this moment I shared with you. Its all I know. It’s where I have lived, am living and choose to live forever. I’m accompanied by a wandering pain in search of a soul to torment. A sadness stringing me along life’s path. I’d thought to die in your arms. To hear your whispers sending me off. To feel the stroke of your hands to my face. I open my eyes, and there A sugar cookie.
