Broken Dreams
Oh look, surprise-surprise, it’s just as I suspected; Just as I foresaw it would turn out – You have already forgotten my face, Erased me from your mind as if I were but a picture, Or merely a dream, made of cloud and moonbeams You have cast me aside, gently but with brutal ease – And now I recline on the scrapheap, weeping, But with a smile on my face, at the recollection of your beauty And the knowledge that though you have forsaken me Still I had you for a little while... Held you inside me, in my warm crimson core, And claimed a tiny piece of your soul So though this pain is growing, and blinding me with agony, And though I am plagued by insomnia, By the incandescent yearning for your skin, your smile – Yet still a deep part of me is happy and content Because I lived out my fantasy, though it was brief, And I kissed the living embodiment of my most ardent dreams... So though the dream broke, shattered, cut my soul to shreds – Still it was a greater gift than I ever hoped to receive; And I will cherish it, for the rest of my wistful, melancholic life...
