The Turtle and the Hare
Did you know that Turtle soup, Is a favorite of the group? What a shame to taste so good, When you do as turtles should. Rabbits run a faster race, Turtles try to keep the pace, But they cannot match the speed, When a rabbit takes the lead. Rabbits too are tasty treats, When they pay for their defeats, But the turtles always face, Someone faster in a race. Tony Turtle heard the call, As the slowest of them all, Turtle soup was Tony's fate, If he won the loser's plate. His opponent was a hare, Faster than a grizzly bear, Randy was the rabbit's name, Running was the rabbit's game. Ready, set, and go now, go, One was fast and one was slow, Randy Rabbit wore a grin, Knowing turtles never win. Randy roused and raised his crew, Tony moved like turtles do, One of them would be set free, One would boil so bubbily. Tony, Tony, with that shell, You can't move or do so well, As you crawl to meet your fate, Will you pass the starting gate? Randy laughed and stopped to rest, Running more than Tony's best, Very soon he fell asleep, Watching Tony Turtle creep. Randy Rabbit slept just fine, Dreaming of the finish line, When he woke to his surprise, Tony Turtle won the prize. Rabbit soup was served that day, Tony turned his head away, Knowing fate is more than fast, When you persevere at last.
