Windflower
I planted windflower in my garden plot Along with yarrow and forget me not Then a man walked over grass toward me Said "I’m Adonis, let me make a plea:" “Windflower you see, is named after me Anemone is the tears of Aphrodite She thought I loved her, she was quite a bore Her tears became flowers, don’t plant it no more." "If you must plant, plant Achilles Yarrow "It heals, unlike tears, that perpetuate sorrow. "I don't mean to be bossy, it's your garden plot "And don't tell me you're planting forget-me-not?" I looked at Adonis, he was a handsome dude “Excuse me” I said, “I don’t mean to be rude "Truth is, most people don't know "The backstory to a flower, they plant it for show." "After you die, what really lives on? "The few who remember they soon pass on "The good, the bad, interred with your bones "Your life summarized by two phrases on stones. Adonis thought a bit, and said “I am relieved "This flower is just a placeholder; I mis-perceived. "If I got a bad rap, nobody will care" And then he dissolved, into the spring air. Then a woman showed up, she said “Adonis lied” "My name's Aphrodi, I want to tell my side” I said "sure" and let her give her spiel For venting helps even a goddess to heal. I said, "that's convincing, Adonis was unfair "But I'm Generation Z, we don't read, we don't care" So she dissolved and the lesson on me grew not to worry what other people think of you. I phoned my brother about this handsome pair Adonis and Aphrodi, both gone into the air He said "where's the photo, to post on Instagram?" I kicked myself for what a fool I am. But I planted sage, and "love-in-the-mist" Mint and Rosemary, I felt warm and sun-kissed Added Belladonna, and roses can't go wrong Called it a day, hummed an evening song. Then six Greek Gods came walking over the green I pulled out my camera, but they wiped it clean They each had a gripe, about what I had done I'll find a new hobby, gardening's lost its' fun. .
