THE MIST OF PRIDE
Can you ever be pleased, mankind? Everything we try, yet we're met with night. We're nerds, unaware of the truth's light, When all that pleases you lies in deceitful sight. "Do not be conformed to the pattern of this world" Yet we strive to fit, in a world that's flawed from birth. Truth's told when falsehoods behold your desire's flame, Emulate to find you when trials bear the blame. "The heart is deceitful above all things" And we deceive ourselves, with pride that clings. Ready to pinpoint deeds when proof's in doubt and shame, Rather foresee what's clear than play the fool's game. You say, "Of course, I'm not a hard nut to crack," But is that truly the case, or just a clever attack? "Do not judge, or you too will be judged" Yet we judge others harshly, with hearts that are bruised. When all that endures is your pride's fragile pack, Your envious bargains of how preferred you are, a constant lack. While criticizing others' flaws, you show your own, The one who laughs last reveals the truth you've sown. "He who claims to be a Homo sapien, alone, When hormones dictate fate, and you're not in control, unknown." Though pleasing you partly displeases me, I confess, I'll quit my part in this charade, and let my spirit rest. "You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood" I'll stand as one, with a heart that's renewed. My name isn't Paul, but Hanna, praying for my best, Not yours, I'll follow my path, and let my heart find its nest. Linnaeus determined your being, a scientific claim, But sanity's mine to nurture my effort, and break the chain. When friction and gravity of our differences draw near, I'll choose my own way, and let my spirit persevere Regardless of the persistent force of spirituality I hope the holy one above sees my plight and not anxiety For fear wasn't my aim but if they refused to listen Let experience be the best teacher For in the the echoes of Aristotle's insight I find my solace: "It is the mark of an educated mind, to entertain a thought without accepting it.
