The Box
I was grateful for the love of family and friends But I was longing to hear your voice just once again Then I came upon a box that I had not seen There was a note that read ‘just a few keepsakes to you-from me’ I would recognize that handwriting anywhere It was from you, my beloved my dear I carefully opened it--not knowing what I would see The box opened easily without a need for a key I peered into the box At first, I was a bit confused Was this one of your jokes? Or were these things really to be used? There were: Glasses – to help me to look for the best A blindfold – to assist me in overlooking the rest Some glue – to remind me not to be broken apart A doorknob – to keep open the door to my heart A glove – to incite me to offer a hand when I observe a fall A ladder – to provide me with the vision to help others stand tall I closed the box but promised to open it again Whenever I missed the voice of my mentor and friend
