Self Love
I am, neither an angel nor a wicked monster, But a beautiful creation of God, a radiant soul, With qualities of head and heart, with foibles and flaws And with a personality and mindset, unique. Once I used to feel so inadequate, trying to fake Comparing myself with others and seeing only my scars In those times, I found my self- esteem hitting hard On the iceberg of negativity and sinking like Titanic. Once I craved for love and attention from outside And longed for other’s validation in all that I did Over the years I have learnt to love and accept myself I listen to the whisper- “Love yourself, rely on your intuition” It is with age, that I have begun looking inwards And plumb the depths of my inner self. Now I see a mine of qualities that make me proud And the overwhelming beauty of my soul. I have learnt that pleasing oneself is more important And I have become conscious of my inner grace. When I opened the windows of my heart, letting in light, Golden rays started illumining the sable chambers of my heart. I have learnt to celebrate my unique strengths, Never turning my back on my flaws, but trying to rectify them I know I am human and it’s okay not to be perfect And every single day, I strive to be a better version of myself. Now I find joy and peace in dancing to my own rhythm, Sketching and coloring my own rainbow in my firmament, Intoning my own delectable melodies with my lyrics, And composing, rhyming and reciting my own poetry.
