Shifting
You were my distraction from the pain, But I thank God you were there anyway, You can only feel and cry so much, When with every tear you wonder when is enough enough, Until God sends someone to ease the blow, To take you away from all you know, For a time you forgot the pain you felt, And your focus shifts to someone else, The talks, the closeness you needed to feel, To take you away from the pain of what's real, But in your heart you know the truth, It's a temporary fix in order to get through, The same heartache you couldn't handle that left you feeling alone, Is still there yet only a shadow of what you once had known, Pictures are your only connection, and you start to feel less, And in your heart you feel guilty your forgetting the rest, So then you question were you meant to forget what once was, When time passes you by and you ask yourself was the love really that strong.
