While crowds all gather, He is not alone Though some mock the One that claims the Throne "King of Men, where dost thou rule? King of naught but ridicule!" "Tis not enough the burden borne They fashion Him a crown of thorn Upon His head it doth be worn To vilify tormentor's scorn. Ponderous tree that once gave life, Siphons strength on journey's strife Sustenance of bitters gall Given only after Christ's first fall. Passing crowds who shout and wail Strangers, friends to no avail One who loves Him like no other Jesus comes to meet His mother. Is there none give slightest ration Of mercy, kindness and compassion? Amongst the crowds 'lest one Paladin? Came forced a man, Simon of Cyrene. Along the way, a maid of youth, Veronica, the face of truth Took her veil of finest lace And gently swabbed our Savior's face. Relentless was the loss of strength That takes its toll at limit's length Mind and muscle start to crumble Christ endures his second stumble. The Jerusalem women line the way To see Our Lord they cry and pray With tearful eyes and wailing cries They pray for Him this Judgment day. Father, Father, hear my prayer! Not much more can I endure! I fear that I am near the end! Jesus stumbles yet again. Satan's soldiers, Heaven's foes, Strip and steal our Savior's clothes To distribute them by chance device They utilize the roll of dice. How to write what is unspeakable or describe what is unthinkable That which is most despicable Some human beings can be so capable. They tortured Him with flog and flail! They crucified Him with rock and nail! They hung Him from a wooden cross! What acts could be more hideous! Christ then spoke with failing breath Words He chose before His death Echoed forever in History's review "Father, forgive them-for they know not what they do." All the Mary's and closest friends Stayed with Him until the end Loosening upon life's final grasp The Lord let go with one last gasp. Survivors mourned and wept their loss His body lowered from the cross And carried to a granite tomb Where laid to rest within earth's womb. Remember Christ's stations of the cross To guide your soul from being lost 'Lest if e'er you should stray Pray these Stations find your way.
