Christmas Cheer
Christmas Cheer My aunt was very old and lived alone, But loved in a way no-one can fathom, So at Christmas time I visited her tidy, To chat, converse, laugh and rhythm. I had flushed cheeks from stepping out, And coming into the radiating heaters, The warm coffee grinned to greet me, Was superseded by Aunt Liz's greeters. There was tinsel above the hot fire place, Two Santas sat genially, hanging around; I guessed she'd have wished to marshal, Coloured tinsel all throughout the ground. So I asked if she had some decorations, Yes, and I stuck them on the walls plain: The fibre optic tree radiated with cheers, For the whole to mirror this hearty twain. I tendered a quiet question on the faith, Without sound she inhaled saying ‘Well’, Knowing something, pointing to her head, Means doing: no air, tell, or external shell. Saying ‘Jesus’ with downward inflection, My eyes friended hers, cheeks relaxed: The description of divinity was the boy, And the description of the boy was faxed. The inside - so hard to mention around: And she nodded ‘It's in here’, it's the inner; The snowball fights, families, wine, jokes, Enliven and invigorate the spirits, a winner.
