They beaked the pieces and quickly flew off, somewhat ungrateful-I thought. Breaching tree line, the apron was next. Thick necked Marmots played alpine flutes rough and tumble attitudes. but not unfriendly. The picas were shy and very difficult to find (furry headed stones against the talus gray sky). After hiking a dozen switchbacks I came upon a crushed emerald pond granite lined and orchid shaped living off winter's froth. I decided the pond wouldn't be nameless after all. I finally reached the pinnacle and was greeted by a shiny gummy bear. At elevation it looked like a yellow gem. Another hiker boasted, he was the second highest thing in the lower forty-eight. (He was taller than me). I was too fatigued to say anything. The panorama was humbling/the air was pinkish and pure. I was nearer to God then I'd ever been. I re-entered the forest, sipping a cherry soda That night I slept as if I were orphaned from death. Dreaming about chocolate birds and giant yellow bears. When I awoke, I was no longer the tallest of anything.
