Somehow
I saw you were hurting; I noticed, but I did not look for long. My life was hectic at the time, does that make me wrong? I heard you had some trouble, and I meant to lend a hand; But I had important things to do, I hope you understand. I told myself I ought to try to help, but I just didn’t know how. Maybe I should have asked you, is it too late to ask you now? How do we make those choices, that bring us to where we are now? Both looking away, trapped in our own prisons Both uneasy, but for entirely different reasons We have all felt the pain of both sides, but we forget somehow. I’m pretty sure I used to know you, and it scares me to see you here I’m sorry that I didn’t reach out, if I do it now do you think me insincere? Without the perfume and the arrogance, we’re all of us the same. Some of us have been lucky, and some of us take the blame. It would be a whole lot easier if I didn’t have to hear your cries. It makes me feel uneasy, and it hurts – so I tell myself more lies This place should have all the answers, we should understand by now. You and I should be able to laugh together We should both be warm, dry and safe from the weather Everyone right now can feel what I’m feeling, but we forget somehow.
