Enter Poem or Quote (Required)Required The Great Northern Road Trip is meant to follow Highway 2 from Washington to Maine. That’s how it was drawn up…that is how it is known but along the way (Seattle, Olympic, Glacier, Banff) we’ve tried to make this trip our own. Today we were back on Highway 2 heading to Havre (pronounced Have-er), Montana which should make the creators of the Great Northern Road Trip smile… because we’ll be taking Highway 2 across Montana…633 more miles. Today was basically a traveling day but we still had a chance to stop In Cut Bank, Montana where we paused…filled with elation to see the 27 foot penguin announcing Cut Bank as the coldest spot in then nation. North Dakota disagrees, saying some of it’s cities are colder, Grand Forks, Williston and Fargo to name a few but…if a 27 foot penguins says it…you know it must be true. Highway 2 across this part of Montana …is long and monotonous so to fight a portion of the trip that can be mundane we stopped to watch the sweet grass swaying across the plains. Yes, since the road was completely empty…..we stopped the car…got out to watch the golden grasses of Montana dancing in the breeze and for a moment it felt like the two of us were aboard a ship upon the seven seas. We’ve gotten use to seeing huge mountains, big beautiful lakes, an occasional grizzly bear today, however, on our Great Northern Road Trip…we saw none of these but we did see a 27 foot concrete penguin and fields of sweet grass dancing in the breeze. Because pausing at some of these little things still beautiful, still interesting but a little lesser known is just another way along the road we make this trip our own.
