Candle
I am but a little candle Shining dimly in the night. Casting shadows in the darkness With my frail and feeble light. But despair won’t overwhelm me For as small as I might be My wee flame is ever present For another soul to see. There are torches all around me Giving off much light and heat. And I fear I pale in contrast Quite unable to compete. Still, I know that others struggle Sharing their own little fire, So, I keep my ember burning In the hope I might inspire I know some might point and snicker, Many others outright laugh, Say the way that I am shining Isn’t bright enough by half. But I try hard not to listen, Pay no heed to what they say. I believe my light’s important So, I’ll never fade away You see, we are all but candles And we’re burning in the dark. And we don’t know just what lit us, From where came that little spark. But like all the other candles I’m not shining for just me… What is light for but to help those Out in darkness better see?
