Bridge Day
Tried to get out the door, Have been to this day before! Card games were all the rage, Our house hosted the craze. Mom said," get nicely dressed and politely greet our guests!" Oh god, I hated this day! The dressing and standing around. Felt on display, For Bridge day! I had to listen politely as they commented on what their children were about today. Everyone descended in good order. Then the comments would start: "Bob is going to college." "Sue's marriage is next fall." "Tim has a job as manager." "Annie's new baby is here at last." After many nods and smiles, They would all turn to me, I was dessert to their verbal repast! "What will you be, When you graduate and are free?" Normally I'd just smile and say "Not much planned on this sunny day, I'd rather be out so I can play." Instead, I smiled and said, "I'm going to rehearse for the Blue Beard Ball. When the show is over in the fall, I'll have some fun, Join the circus in town and travel around." That was the last time my mom asked me to stay. "Wonder what happen? I was dressed and polite that day!"
