Fallen Star
You know, I didn't recognize you nor did I know of your pain, When I saw you walking all alone through the New York City rain. I watched as you stopped on the corner, like east and west were entwined; It was as if you realized that your youth was far behind. As the old street lights began to dim the moon takes as eerie glow, Throughout the crowd on the avenue there is no one that you know. With head bowed down you keep moving on, humming songs you used to croon; You'll move carefully across your lounge where your records are now strewn. The faded posters upon your walls bring your history to life, You sped through those heady days of fame without children or a wife. Always said that nothing would stop you, to the top you had been bound, But when suddenly the music stopped you came crashing to the ground. The fans stopped bringing vinyl to sign, your songs were no longer played; Suddenly you woke one morn to find you had nothing left to trade. Now you walk the lonely streets at night trying to find one more song That might be the hit which takes you back to the place you once belonged.
