Seven Sins
Quote:"In a world where thrushes sing and willow trees are golden in the spring, boredom should have been included among the seven deadly sins." Elizabeth Goudge In the depths of my soul, I strive to be pure, To resist the lure of sins, I endure. But as I open my door, they stand in a line, The seven sins, tempting, oh how they shine. Pride, the first one, with its arrogant grace, Whispering accolades, urging me to embrace. But I turn my back, with humility in my stride, For I know that true greatness stems from inside. Next comes Envy, with its green, jealous eyes, Showing me what I lack, fueling my disguise. But I resist its pull, for contentment I seek, Knowing that comparing brings only anguish and bleak. Greed, the third, flaunts its golden allure, Promising wealth and power, a life secure. Yet, I reject its promises, for I understand, That true riches lie in the love of my fellow man. Sloth, the fourth, with its lazy embrace, Whispering comfort, urging me to embrace. But I refuse its grip, with vigor and might, For I know that achievements come from relentless fight. Lust, the fifth, with its fiery desires, Burning passions, igniting internal fires. But I quell its flames, with self-control and grace, For love and intimacy, in true connection I embrace. Gluttony, the sixth, tempts with excess and feast, Indulging in pleasures, satisfying every beast. Yet, I deny its cravings, with moderation in sight, For a balanced life brings true joy and delight. Wrath, the final sin, with its fiery rage, Urging me to unleash, to engage. But I choose forgiveness, with a heart so pure, Knowing that anger only brings pain and rupture. With determination, I stand strong and tall, Resisting the temptations that surround us all. For in the face of sins, I find my inner peace, Choosing a path of virtue, where my soul finds release.
