In Sickness
When you were in the hospital, dear My heart was filled with a dreadful fear. I begged God to spare your pretty life And went home with worry for my wife. The strain on both my body and mind Was so great that no sleep did I find. I prayed by your bedside and by mine That God would heal and all would be fine. There was a day when I left your side In so much pain I could scarce abide. I thought I would have to call someone, For to walk simply could not be done. “O God, please don’t take my wife from me! I can’t live without her, don’t you see?” This I cried while begging for your life, As full of pain my whole heart was rife. Suddenly, God spoke soft to my heart And I knew to have faith on my part. Peace flooded my soul at His soft word It would quickly pass, is what I heard. I was exhausted on the glad day That you were better and would not stay In the hospital any longer Because God made you so much stronger. You are home and I am not alone, But from my mouth you heard not a groan. I have been doing the work of two And trying to take care of you, too. I go to bed and sleep exhausted. My phone rings and I am accosted. You forgot to ask me for something That into your room I must now bring. But praise to God that in His great care We were not tried more than we could bear. You are now home and on the fast mend. Over our pain His love does transcend.
