Building Tension
It started with a little glance He noticed my face was flushed I beg him for forgiveness with my lips Eager emerald eyes gave me away I purposely waited too late It’s the last date for choice to be made “What did you do?” He whispered “I’m sorry…I can’t! It’s too hard!” Packing my clothes feeling blue His angry eyes throw black darts That stab my pregnant heavy heart Building tension like steam in a kettle He yells that I have chosen to die That the baby inside may not live either He wants to adopt rather than risk this He doesn’t want me to die I want to take my chances rather than abort It is a warm spring day as flowers bloom green I feel our love withering from the strain I don’t have yet the answers My prayers fall like a leaf in blue lake Carried away by the cool current And I must go too live or die I choose to try motherhood despite the odds.
