The Unluckiest Day of the Year
January 2nd is the unluckiest day of the year. It's when all the bad things happen, I fear. The holidays are over, the bills are due. The weather is cold, the sky isn't blue. The resolutions are broken, the motivation is gone. The work is piled up, the stress is on. The flu is spreading, the cough is loud. The traffic is jammed, the honking seems proud. The news is depressing, the world is a mess. The happiness is fleeting, just sadness and stress. January 2nd is the unluckiest day of the year. It's when all the bad things happen, I hear. But wait, there's more, the curse goes on. The fridge is empty, the wallet is drawn. The dog is sick, the cat is sad. The kids are bored, the spouse is mad. The car is broken, the tire is flat The pizza is cold, my thighs are fat. January 2nd is the unluckiest day of the year. It's when all the bad things happen, I jeer. But don't despair, there's still some hope. The next day is better, I'm sure I’ll cope. The sun will shine, the birds will sing. The flowers will bloom, the bells will ring. The friends will call, the family will hug. The love will grow, the heart will tug. The music will play, the laughter will sound. The joy will fill, the peace will be found. The cake will be sweet, the coffee will be hot. The book will be good, the bed will be sought. January 3rd is the luckiest day of the year It's when all the good things happen, I cheer. *I wrote this poem on January 2, 2024, as part of a ’30 days of poetry’ January challenge. This was day 2 and the prompt was:The 2nd of January is believed by some to be the unluckiest day of the year. Write a poem about an unlucky day.
