Resolved To Do Better
It’s long been a tradition of mine to welcome January with a few resolutions. But the played-out “New Year, New Me” nonsense has my head filled with endless disillusions. I’ll admit that I am a repeat offender when citing this as my top priority— to lose some weight and eat healthier foods much like the world’s majority. Putting an end to these foolish expectations that I find myself struggling to achieve. This year will be different ‘fore I intend setting easy goals to meet, I believe. Stick with my daily “to-do” list filled with potential though plagued by procrastination. Or else it becomes a “did-not” list frustratingly joining tomorrow’s accumulation. Make time every day to write more brief stories or a poem—maybe two. My horror blog is getting my attention of late one day ready to publish and view. Watching movies, I do all the time and I have two hopes I want to attain. See more films than the year before (381)— focusing on classics where the memories will remain. More concerts are an objective for me metal and new wave bands give me a thrill. I will travel by plane or by car for a fix of good music that speaks to me still. Road trips I just can’t get enough of exploring places I’ve always adored. New restaurants with delicious menu options I’d do more often if I could afford. Genealogy runs through my blood my family tree blissfully expanding. Sharing knowledge and pictures with my loved ones the joy I feel is truly outstanding. All the time in the world would not satisfy the many items I resolve to complete. But any plans I fail to carry out the agenda of 2025 they will meet. *I wrote this poem on January 1, 2024, as part of a ’30 days of poetry’ January challenge. This was day 1 and the prompt was: Craft a poem that explores your resolutions for the year.
