Autumnal Nostalgia
October’s here with her crisper air As nights draw closer, warmth to share. Colours turn to red and gold That brighten days of frosty cold. The smells evoke past memories dear Of autumns done, both love and fear. Reminding me of times gone by With family who beyond us lie. Baking buns and blackberry picking Warm in the kitchen, hear the timer ticking. Then rings out loud for all to hear The goods are ready let’s give a cheer. My grandma by her hand so fair Made saffron buns for all to share, Every week without a fail And we would lick the mixer pail. Sunday evenings always spark Nostalgia from my past so dark Of fireside suppers, a safe abode While outside weather horsemen rode. Autumn brings warm to our souls Comfy cosy, making us whole. It may be darker, evenings drawn Yet the yearly circle cycles on. Autumn follows summers steps To lay the path for winters depths.
