Storms
Autumn was my favorite time to play when I was young Weather wet and wonderful is worthy to be sung Rain is restitution for a summer hot and dry How I love the season when the clouds are passing by Once I loved the little things that celebrate a storm Worms and slugs and all the bugs that wake up to perform Snails were my favorite friends to keep me company I could spend all day with them whenever I was free Leaves of green were golden by the gilded gift of Fall Picking up the red ones was a royal lift for all I remember raking leaves to make the piles high All my friends would jump on them to make the colors fly When the rain was falling and the gutter flow was fast We would race our paper boats and hope for some to last Most of them would tumble in the water and be lost Maybe they were memories that justify the cost How I love the rainy days when wild things are free To linger on a grateful lawn and bathe in victory The thunder and the lightning are like music to my ears A flashing, crashing symphony of symbols through the years.
