The Pastry Shop
It was a very cold wintery day, I had no coat and was full of dismay; As I held my small boy close to my heart, that we were so poor- well that really hurt. As we passed a pastry shop my boy said, "I want one mommy, please . " As tears I shed; There was no money for those fancy treats, as we spent hours begging on the streets. I told him that we could just look for now, at pies, cakes, and buns filled with berries- wow; filled with custard, jams- then, sugar sprinkled, oh, sweet how my little boys eyes twinkled. The door opened and the baker stepped out, I was sure he would yell at us and shout; But, he gave me a bag full of sweet treats, "They are a day old " he said, "but good eats." He was so kind- even gave me a coat, and a toy, a bit battered- a sail boat; He gave us sweet treats and chocolate to drink, God, you created this kind man- I think !
