Ripe For the Picking
Johnny walked the countryside, sowing apple seeds A healthy fruit, doctors say everyone has daily needs He succeeded in his mission across America's frontier Along his chosen path, apple trees would soon appear From early September until Autumn days of October these are known to be the best days for apple picking It's considered to be the peak of harvesting season before they all become over ripe. The clock is ticking At the beginning of Fall, brisk breezes begin to blow Leaf colors start to change and in the air there's a chill That's the time to visit orchards with baskets and crates Be sure to bring lots of containers so you can get your fill Make it a fun family outing that seems like an adventure It'd be a fantastic idea not to leave your children at home because they'd be handy to pick good ones off the ground Maybe juicy Fujis, Granny Smiths, or the beauteous Rome Start by finding a tree whose branches are heavy with fruit weighed down and laden with a crop that'll be delicious. Very gently, twist the stems from the limb with your wrist It's a worthwhile task to collect food that's so nutritious Don't forget to bring a ladder for those that are hard to reach Careful not to bruise them so they'll be in good shape to eat Bake them in a tasty pie, crisp, cobbler or an apple strudel or dip them in caramel coating for a yummy Halloween treat
