Old Enough
It’s a cold October morning, these city streets are quiet and bare. I am coming back from no place on my way to who knows where. I’ve been feeling so down and low I can’t see a way to reach the top. For me to hit rock bottom would not be too much of a drop. Empty sidewalks in the morning when I’ve got no other place to be. Make me think of you and how you were taken away from me. The sound of those lonesome church bells, ringing through this cold and bitter rain. Has me searching for the bottle that knows how to ease this pain. Chorus: Yes, there’s no high I haven’t tried, to forget the pain for a while. The sparkle of your eyes and how, your lips curved crooked when you’d smile. But no matter how much I try, the pain of losing you creeps in. When each new drug I take wears off, my heart breaks all over again. Your kiss could send me to heaven your love kept me bound beneath its spell. Since you went away my life’s been trapped inside this living hell. My friends say I should be thankful for sharing all the good times we had. Because you are in a better place then I should not be sad. But those words come from innocent people who have never lost a wife. To have you back for just one day I’d gladly trade my own life. I’m old enough to have learned a lot but the one thing I still don’t know. Is how old do I have to be before I can let you go. (Repeat Chorus) I’m old enough to have learned a lot, but the one thing I still don’t know. Is how old do I have to be before I can let you go.
