Used To Be Love
He started off patient, He used to be kind, What she didn't know? He told her pretty lies. Anything, everything he knew would capture her like some prize to be won. He got her with charm. He smiled, played the card. 'Vulnerability'. Went for the heart she wore on her sleeve. Held it in his hand and crushed it on the spot. He won it fair, but his was elsewhere. He told her pretty words, as a compulsive liar would. Said she was the one even as his heart went far, to someone else he too hurt. With lingering eyes and that goddamn smirk. He asked for a break just to use her like nothing as every compulsive liar, he showed remorse, apology, regret, sorrow. None of it was real. He touched her, rejected when she refused. A walking red flag she chose to ignore. At the first END, he came running back, knowing she'd take him, no questions asked. Soon she would see, he only ever used her. But not soon enough. In debt, emotionally tied, exhaustion became her until finally she could no more. A final ending to the boy who treated her like she was his mother, rather than a soulmate or significant other. The love remains, but if she stayed, resentment would become her, And she's better off kind.
