Eventually we drive up the hill above the valley lights to sit and watch the dark sky. Stars everywhere up there, and planets too. At last I see the faint hazy glow of the comet’s tail, and we take turns looking through binoculars. You and me, like on a date, up at the end of a dirt road. We don’t kiss, we don’t even hold hands, but when you exclaim with innocent delight how marvelous it all is - the comet, the heavens, the planets, this planet - I think, I could spend a life with you.
