My Umbrella
At breakfast, you dumped pepper in my juice, last night, you let a frog loose in my bath Before school, you shook all my homework loose and fashioned paper airplanes from my math. In spite of all the "Keep Out!" signs I'd made, you planned a coup and stormed my room by force Insisting I had livestock you could trade, you grabbed my braids and said I was a horse. Now, pleasantries are rolling off your tongue, you're looming at my shoulder like a ghoul, expecting those old bells to be un-rung Oh Brother, you must take me for a fool! No, while I feel you've launched a strong campaign, your pretty words have not renewed my trust I know you hate to walk home in the rain but feel, dear Brother, that today you must. You've victimized me all the live long fall but my umbrella serves to turn the tide I run ahead, protected from the squall and lock the doors, so you can't get inside. And on this rainy day, my dreams come true, for I have found a way to torture YOU. ____________ Date: September 5th, 2023 Prompt: "Umbrella" by Pierre Édouard Frère
