The Pace of Peace
The Pace of Peace Br-a-a-a-a-a-ang! Goes my morning clock! And from my bed, I flew. Off goes the sheets and into the shower... brush my teeth, and eat... I better hurry, I have only a half hour! And in my car, I race... through the stop sign... and onto the highway at a record pace. Past this car, and that car I flew. Take the next off-ramp... and fly down the avenue. I only have ten minutes to eight, hunting for a parking space, hurrying around the UPS truck, I can't wait! And then... it happened. A bicycle messenger pulled out... I slammed on my breaks... just a reaction... no time to be frightened. But we collided, as I heard his cry "Watch out!" As if time had stopped, I saw him sail, over my hood, I heard him wail. Oh! Dear Lord, do I have time to pray. God save me! God save him! Dear Lord, why today!? Had I laid my head to rest... and put You before all and not to the test, I would not be here, and this way. Now I sit, in my prison chamber. The events I replay... and oh how I wish I could not remember, that fateful day. But now, here I sit, day after day... with all the time I need to pray... and wished I lived, not for the most, but for the least, in prayerful harmony... at the pace of peace. by Martin Braun August 22, 2023
