Why the Husband Stays In the Garage
Just before the couple’s wedding day a young man told me about his plan How he and his wife would be equal no difference between the woman or the man All the chores like cooking and the cleaning would be shared equally by each one That way neither would have the burden and working side by side would be fun But after that first meal together she told him perhaps it would be best If he left the cooking up to her maybe he could help with all the rest So then he tried to do the laundry but somehow the whites all came out red She said perhaps honey the next time maybe you could wash dishes instead So he loaded up the dishwasher she stopped him before he could hit start She had to rearrange the whole thing Said, why don’t you make the bed sweet heart But he left the bottom sheet wrinkled the pillows unfluffed and strewn about She said why don’t you wash the car dear right after you take the garbage out He contemplated the lesson learned as he stood in the garage that day In order for him to be her equal he would have to stay out of her way
