Enter Poem or Quote (Required)Required Jolted out of my sleep state, I'm weary-eyed --- it’s 4 am. It takes a minute to clear the haze as I wake to the scent of distant fires. Recalling the news of yesterday, slowly reality begins to set in: we’re not in danger here, but virgin forests to the north are being decimated. What of the wildlife? What of the secluded dwellings? What of the fear and drama now filtering through the air? A thick smog reeks of many fires, furiously gaining, ransacking everything within their path. As the tragedy strikes just within reach, my heart melts with compassion. Yet I close all windows tightly, knowing there’s not a thing I can do. They need a downpour desperately – if only tears and prayers could help. But our pleas go unanswered; only heavy rains can save what’s left.
