Talking To Myself
I had a dream a while back, I was four years old again. The younger me asked myself, Was I proud of who I've been? I looked down into the eyes, Of the child now beside me. Searching memories of the past, Just hoping truth would guide me. I took his small hand in mine, Then knelt down right before him. Speaking of the winding roads, And begged him to explore them. Every step I made throughout, Led by hope or foolish pride. One true voice that steered my course, Was the child I kept inside. You reminded me to live, The very best that I can. And you helped me find the way, Until I became a man. You were there to pick me up, When I was feeling gloomy. And you brightened up my heart, When bad times came up to me. He only grinned as I stood, And the last words that I said... "I thank you for your friendship," Then woke smiling in my bed. Now in the prime of my days, Weathered times through thick and thin. No matter what might occur, I still wear that childish grin.
