The Crucifix On Fire
I docked my boat on the side of the shore and got on my motorbike and rode into the town. The streets were bare empty and not even an ant was crawling on the ground. I looked around to see if I was on earth when I felt a tingling sensation in my throat and I cough it off. The moment plunged in silence again and I could only hear the sound of my heart beat, pluck, pluck, pluck and the blood gushing out of my arteries into my veins circulating in my vascular and cardiovascular system. I walked idly around holding my gun close to my side, when a big truck loaded with men dressed in white sheet drove up, and parked on the other side. They unload the, truck and the men walked towards the bush and gather around in a circle, a man came out of the truck carrying a big cross and erected it on the hill behind the circle. Two other trucks parked up with one hundred nude men, their hands and feet bound together and they looked like prisoners from the south. Another set of men wearing white sheet and holding long guns came out of another truck and marched the naked men towards the Crucifix on the hill. They lay them flat on the ground with face down in the earth and begin a strange ritual . I had some toffee I had picked up from the store and I placed the toffee in the corner of my Jaw while I observe the proceedings with awe. They set the Crucifix on fire and it starts blazing and the Klan begins a strange chant, it was the sound death rumbling in the ribs of men Hundreds of them dressed in white sheets with a pyramid shouting above their head and two eyes cut out in the middle to behold the dead. The Klan chief’s gathers around the burning crucifix and call out to the prisoners lying on the ground and they all stood up at the same time. They marched around the cross with their naked bodied shivering in the dark and the chief utter a sound and one hundred men were shot dead and they fell on the ground. The blood soaked the earth and the sting of death penetrates the dirt but the Ku Klux Klan continues to chant and shout and conduct their gruesome ritual until mid-night. I toed my motorcycle from the town and when I was far out of sight I rode back to the shore and place it on the boat and left the odious town.
