Symphony
In the beginning there was Chaos. God spoke, and there was Symphony. -- by Poet There was darkness all around, And all were but muffled sound, As the notes from a bassoon-- Low and melancholy tune. And God’s spirit hovered o’er The waters that had no shore. Then God spoke and there was light That divided Day and Night, After which He formed the sky While below, Land and Sea lie; Lightning flashed and thunders roared For God had struck the first chord. Plants came sprouting from the ground, And God caused them to abound; Their shiv’ring leaves bowed and swayed In forest, hill, plain, and glade. Soft breeze hummed and whistled, too, As it blew the green leaves through. Next, He placed Sun, Moon, and Stars In their designated bars, So that their rhythm harmonized And their movements equalized, That all seasons, days, and years Aid the Music of the Spheres And none spawned cacophony, All gave rise to symphony. God then spoke and in the seas Sprang creatures that swim with ease: Fishes darted to and fro, Sometimes high and sometimes low. While in the air birds that fly Sang melodies, low and high-- Their varied tones all comprised A symphony well-devised. On land, beasts gave diff’rent cries That went up the azure skies; Their moos, brays, barks, growls, and neighs Seemed to form a song of praise. Thus, these creatures great and small In the vast orchestral hall Did their role, whate’er that be, In this Life’s one symphony. Then God made Man and Woman To make perfect His grand plan. He gave them the gift of speech That His goodness they might preach, And voices that they could sing The beauty of everything. So to complete the score He Bound them in matrimony. They were to play the best part In what God framed at the start That their symphony of love Should be as pure as a dove.
