The Frightmare King
What he’s capable of, I do admit, frightens me the most My dread began in 2006, on TV his face did appear The Burger King with the giant head is definitely morose He lies in wait as you sleep, his head on your bedpost Behind the blinds in your living room, his plastic face so near What he’s capable of, I do admit, frightens me the most You’ll find him in your bubble bath leaving you comatose And check the backseat of your car, you’ll find him there my dear The Burger King with the giant head is definitely morose He stalks you around corners gazing at you with a leer Creeping behind you at the ATM, his royalty so close What he’s capable of, I do admit, frightens me the most Seeing him during Halloween made my heart stop almost To me, the reason for my irrational fear is certainly quite clear The cause of one of the mental illnesses that I’ve been diagnosed Dethrone the King, remove his crown, and bid him adios With a lethal dose of narcotics, I know that’s quite severe What he’s capable of, I do admit, frightens me the most The Burger King with the giant head is definitely morose *I wrote this poem on April 15, 2021, as part of a ’30 days of poetry’ challenge. This was day 15 and the prompt was: Write a villanelle. Use one of the following prompts: A memory you can’t get rid of, a bad habit, an irrational fear, or an obsessive desire for someone or something. I choose to write about an irrational fear of mine. My irrational fear is the mascot from the fast food restaurant Burger King.
