Each Passing Cloud
In the ebbing glory of the night As the moon with a pallid face Moved away and hid herself, The sun with his lustrous rays Appeared through the cracked walls of the sky, To wake the sleeping hamlet. Bales of clouds of all shapes and sizes Moved over the sun hiding him for a while. But soon drifted away to directions unknown Shapeshifting, morphing, and aligning, Into shapes inconceivable in just the flicker of an eye As I look on, each passing cloud reminds me, Of the years that glide past unknowingly, And of the transience of human life. The moon that fades after lighting the night The sun that sets after warming the day The flowers that wither after feasting the eye The clouds that fleet across the cerulean blue All obliquely announce, life is a fleeting dream. The love once flourished may fade and die. Trees towering high may fall and rot. Rivers that swell can dry up once. The same is true of our life on earth. At times we soar on wings of joy At times we drown and are deep in grief Does it remind us of a vital truth? Like the clouds changing shape every now n’ then Life on earth can never be the same! Thus, each passing cloud speaks aloud, In tongueless eloquence two things to me… Of the transitory nature of human life And the need to mutate, to shapeshift my form, As the situation demands and move on heedlessly. ___________________________ March. 8. 2023 ~ Placed First~ Entered for Brian Strand No.1203 Poetry Contest Each Passing Cloud Poetry Contest Sponsor- JCB Brul
