Gray Horizon
Besieged souls fight up their way against a pile of bodies in lay. Hearts tremble in disarray as the horizon turns to gray. On the ground, the children scream as the quake shatters their dream. Ruins of shatter drown the stream as the sun's rays turn to dim. On the sea, young souls flutter as they try to dodge the shatter, while the wrath of the raging water tries to clip their voice to stutter. A weeping mother mourns her child even though his ways were wild, for the time for him to be mild can no longer be seen by her grandchild. Two lovers, long drifted away, long for more time together to stay but the bleakness of the day brought the tears as she watched him lay. How could the world forget the day when the horizon turned to gray? Thousands of souls in tragic slay; Many pristine, with no debt to pay. Oh! Lord almighty, cuddle us, pour your mercy. Swerve us away from this monstrosity, unto upturn and prosperity. February 10, 2023 A Brian Strand Choice No 1185 Poetry Contest Sponsored by: Brian Strand
