''I Shoulda Seen It Comin''
the snow was falling ... the wind blowing it in drifts ... here and there and it was real cold oh, gosh that snow was bad but pretty like a winter wonderland ~ and I was determined to go out to the store so, I dressed for the North Pole with hat, scarf, winter coat and mittens ~ it was not a beautiful look but this is Canada in wintertime fashion must be set aside for warmth my boots were clunky and heavy but good for walking in snow so, off I went went sorta confident ~ it was hard going because of the snow in my face and I discovered ice hiding beneath the snow in places so, slow and careful was my plan ~ I shoulda seen it comin ... because I was no longer walking I was floating in the air then, I landed spinning in circles it was not very dignified that's for sure oh, yeah I had hit a nasty patch of ice I sat on the pathway bewildered ... and quite dazed my hat was lost and 'gone' ... ~ somehow, I managed to 'crawl' back home my arm hurt a lot (and ended up sprained- ouch!) oh, yes indeed ... I shoulda see it comin ... I was a fool ... to think that I could defeat the snow and ice ~ ____________________ February 01, 2023 Poetry/Free Verse/''I Shoulda Seen It Comin'' Copyright Protected, ID 02-1522-713-01 All Rights Reserved, 2023, Constance La France Written for the Standard contest, I Shoulda Seen It Coming sponsor, John Lawless, Judged 02/07/2023 First Place
