Winter Is Not Forever
The chill of winter bites deep into the skin, And the world stays inert in muffled din. In the freezing blustery winter days, Life poses threat to beasts in many ways. I, this little squirrel inside a tree’s narrow hollow, Am in hibernation to guard myself from nagging snow. Feeding on the scanty store of nuts gathered, Wondering if my life will be sheltered or shattered. Eagerly I await winter to have a natural ending, As the cycle of seasons keep changing. Hope the world will soon be up and awake, And life, in all possibility, a renewed turn take. As no season can pause for long or linger on, Winter will soon fade away and be gone. Once more spring will be back in all its cheer And my loneliness and frustration will disappear. The valleys and planes, now sleeping so silent, Will wake up as the sun from his hide out comes radiant. I wish to see birds once again soaring into the sky, And their lively twitter and chatter rising high! Oh! Come spring, the season of sunshine and mirth When the earth will show visible signs of rebirth Let me, from tree-to-tree scamper and scurry With my other friends, free of all worry!
