Faerie Tale Heroines Are Blonde
When I was a child all of the faerie tale heroines were blonde. Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Gretel, Tinkerbelle and Goldie Locks. Being brunette does not make sense to a five-year-old. The prince is not coming for me. My hair is too dark. I do not have blue eyes either. The Anderson Brothers and the Brothers Grimm loved blue eyes. All of their heroines had them. I had hazel green eyes. Until Snow White came upon the scene, there was no hope. Now there was a teensy bit of hope. A sliver of a spark of a slip of a teensy tiny bit of a hope. I was thrilled when Disney brought out Mulan. Now I knew it was okay to not only save myself, but to also save the prince. Then Princess and the Frog arrived. Now it is okay to have black hair, darker skin, hazel green eyes! You can be a heroine without blonde hair and blue eyes now! Thank goodness!
