A Stormy Night Dinner
As the dinner hour is approaching Daylight is reproaching Bringing in the darkness of night Lights are all turned on bright House trembles from the power of the wind As the lights are dimmed The mother prepares and cooks They exchange worried looks Possibly the power will soon go out The father quickly looks about For all the supplies they will need Candles, blankets and something to read The lightning flashes and lights the sky The thunder crackles and they all jump high The rain starts to pour Pounding the windows and door A loud pop and the house goes dark What should we do the children remark He lights the candles with a spark They all eat their dinner in the dark No TV, No internet, they finally speak About all the things they did that week In a world of darkness and fear The reliance on power is quite clear The children seat there with nothing to do As their toys all need power to The parents are hoping it won’t last long Knowing the damage when winds are strong As the storm gets louder and the sky flashes light The children keep their parents in sight Finally owning their fright Holding their mother tight The little children shake with fear As the storm keeps drawing near The father starts to read a story One that tells of bravery and glory Don’t worry it will be all right When suddenly there was light The house starts to purr as it turns on With relief all the fear is gone
