The Dress
You like this dress I'm wearing? It's more than what you see. I've had it my whole life, but time has changed it drastically. We all wear a different dress in different colors, styles and size. The dress you wear right now, tell people who you are inside. Your dress isn't in a closet, on a shelf, or display rack. Your dress is how you carry your life across your back. My dress was way too big when I was a younger girl. I couldn't wait to grow up and find my fit inside this world Then it got too tight. I had so many dreams. Marriage, kids, and work were all busting at the seams. It came unraveled more than once, calling for some real adjustments. I had to lose some extra weight, like heavy hate and salty grudges. I've had blood and dirty stains on the dress I had to wear. And the ones I couldn't clean are soaking in my mother's prayers. My dress has been ripped open. It's been torn and it's been patched. It's been dyed and it's been faded And it's been terribly mismatched. Some say it's out of style, but I don't like that phrase. It's simply vintage darling, So don't put me on your stage. The runway that I've walked has not been Gucci filled. But it taught me how to walk through pain in my high heels. We all have a dress to wear. Why do we gossip and tear down those who trip and fall and cant get off the ground? If you don't like thier runway or all the junk in her trunk, maybe you should flip the lights to see how far they've come. The dress we all are wearing will sometimes pull us down. But your beauty is your walk. So work your runway proud.
