Winter Whispers
Too long away; too far gone from my journey’s road Born free As free as the wind blows through the pines on a cold November morning Whispering its song of summer longing Glorious in its shivering, needles still gently falling to the ground Creating a soft bed for those who choose to take advantage of the warmth beneath Early blue skies darken to gray, signaling the coming white snow Signs of life still rustle about enduring the chill of the early winter to romp the floors of the forest, foraging for food There is something about the winter with its chill clearing away the stale summer’s end that draws me in to savor its richness and wonder Oh, winter, touch me with your sting of cold and travel inward to my heart to melt the blast of ice. Warmth bursts forward and allows the inner child to emerge eagerly to greet nature in all its glory. ©Deborah M Kelly 11/20/22
